Life Update

Hey guys! I know it’s been FOREVER since my last post and I am so sorry. Things have been pretty crazy this year so I thought I’d give you a little play by play update. I’ll try to keep it short and sweet.

  • In February we found out we were pregnant from our third round of IVF! what?! I mean honestly we’d been here twice before so we were cautiously optimistic. We’d miscarried our first two pregnancies so this time we implanted two embryos to improve our chances. We had our first ultrasound at 6 weeks and our dr saw one sac and fetal pole. I asked him to check around a little just to make certain there weren’t two in there and sure enough there was another empty sac. An empty sac at 6 weeks usually means a miscarriage though so we were pretty sure we were only having one baby but at our 8 week ultrasound to everyones shock we saw TWO heartbeats. Talk about a shock. Alec and I spent the day in utter disbelief, excitement, and honestly fear. But that fear subsided pretty quickly and the thought of having twins became just as normal as having one. We’re having a baby boy and a baby girl and I’ve never been so happy and grateful in my life!
  • MORNING SICKNESS- you guys oh my gosh. I don’t even have the proper words to explain how bad it was for me in the first trimester. I had hyperemesis gravidarum and was throwing up 15 times a day. I lost my voice because the vomit was so acidic, I lost a ton of weight, I wasn’t eating at all, and I pretty much felt like I was actually dying. That’s not an exaggeration. But around 19 weeks it started subsiding and I was only puking once a day. Fastforward to today at 24 weeks and I’m only throwing up once or twice a week. Yay!
  • MOVING- upon realizing we were having two babies instead of one we decided it was finally time to leave LA and move to Nashville. We packed up our tiny house in LA, loaded a u-haul trailer and packed the pets into the car and had an amazing drive across the country when I was about 22 weeks pregnant. It was perfect timing, I was feeling healthy and still in my second trimester. We found a great house in East Nashville and we’ve been incredibly happy here.
  • BIRTH PLAN- well my original birth plan was to have a natural birth at the Del Mar Birth Center in Pasadena, CA. We toured the facility and it was so lovely. I was very set on delivering there. Then we found out we were having twins and it changed everything. For one lots of birthing centers won’t take on high risk pregnancies (all twin/multiple pregnancies are considered high risk). So much can go wrong so I gave up on my birthing center plan and decided to do a hospital birth. I originally planned to try and have a natural birth at the hospital but after touring the hospital and speaking with doctors we found out that I can indeed do a natural birth but if I do that and end up needing an emergency c-section they’ll have to put me fully to sleep as there won’t be enough time for an epidural in which case I’d miss the birth of my first borns. So now I’ve decided the best thing for me and the babies is to take the epidural just in case I need an emergency c-section. It’s really not what I had wanted but ultimately it’s the best option.                                                                                                         So I think that pretty much catches you all up on what’s been going on. Now that I’m not so sick and we are moved into our new place I’m going to be blogging more regularly. We’re going to do a birth video but I’m not certain if we’ll post it. I’ll also do a pregnancy progression blogpost at some point.

You guys can get my dress here. I absolutely LOVE this dress. It’s so great for pregnancy and for summer and it’ll be great after I give birth as well. I’ve been loving yellow lately.
