This weekend Alec and I celebrated two wonderful years of marriage and I must say, our relationship has only grown stronger since getting married. We’ve been together nearly 8 years and things just keep getting better as time goes on. I love this man more today than I did when we got engaged. He’s my best friend and I couldn’t imagine my life without him.
Last year we started the Madonna Inn tradition. Every year for our anniversary we drive up to San Luis Obispo for the weekend, stay in a cheesy hotel room, watch movies at the drive in theater, and explore new places. This year our exploration took us up the coast to Big Sur for the first time. It was freezing and so windy that I occasionally lost my balance but it was absolutely breathtaking. I don’t think there’s much in life that makes me as happy as going on adventures with Alec. Sometimes we get in the car and don’t even know where we’re going but we always end up somewhere wonderful. Although, anywhere can feel like somewhere wonderful if you’re there with the right person.
Cheers to love and happiness!
You guys I don’t even know where to begin with this place. Alec and I found out about this hotel just by chance on a drive up the coast about a year and a half ago. It’s literally right off the highway so you can’t miss it. As soon as I saw it I fell in love with it. Each room has it’s own theme and name. This year we stayed in the Dez which has an eerie victorian theme. Some of the rooms are completely covered in pink, one has a very green glitter wall, one is built to look like a cave. They are all amazing and I can’t wait to stay in a new one next year.
SLO is always a fun time. It’s a small college town with lots of charm. One of the town’s notable features is Bubble Gum Alley. It’s literally an alley with old chewing gum stuck all over the walls. It’s really gross and it kind of makes me want to throw up but it’s also eerily pleasing to look at. SLO Brewing Company is also a fun place to go get a beer and some dinner. One of my all time favorite parts of this trip is the drive in movie theater. Double feature for about $8. Yes please!
I can’t even put into words how beautiful Big Sur is but I guess I don’t have to because the photos speak for themselves. We drove up the coast on Sunday stopping periodically along the way. On one of our stops we got to watch a ton of sea lions taking adorable snuggly naps in the sand. It was supposed to rain but luckily the sun came out for most of the day. I definitely recommend a trip to Big Sur if you have the chance.
